ITALY - Collefrisio Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Zero

Collefrisio is a young, forward-thinking company located in the Chieti province of Abruzzo where the temperature is warm during the day and cool in the evening. The area is traditionally well known for montepulciano grapes which thrive in this climate.

The berries are deeply coloured and so are the resultant wines. They can be juicy and fleshy and laden with cherry-bright fruit or have a more robustly tannic finish.

Collefrisio Zero is un-oaked, allowing the dark cherry/plum/mocha/spice to sing in a very Italian way. It finishes with ever-so slightly gritty natural grape tannins. Fantastic with  char-grilled/bbq beef cooked in the piece to rare, and then sliced. 13.5% alcohol, screw cap.

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo should not be confused with the wines of the Tuscan DOCG Montepulciano which are made from sangiovese.
