Derwent Estate is at Granton on the western bank of the Derwent River.
The Mt Nassau farming property, home to Derwent Estate, has been in the Hanigan family since 1913. The vineyard was established in 1993. Derwent Estate Pinots age superbly as evidenced by the success of the 2015 vintage across two recent Tasmanian Wine Shows.
Michele's notes: Deep ruby/crimson. Complex and alluring bouquet of blueberry, slate/ferrous elements, dark red roses, marzipan and hint of camphor. The clarity and focus of the fruit is key.
Silky and sleek in the mouth with fabulous flow across the palate. So, so elegant but full of flavour too - simply a seamless meld of classy, mature-vine fruit (and the inherent depth of flavour), and almost invisible framework of oak in support. The finish is pure velvet.
