ITALY - Italian White Wines
Winery : various
Italy has a stunning array of indigenous grapes, but also puts its special stamp on international varieties like chardonnay and pinot blanc. Any visitor to Venice would likely have enjoyed a crisp Soave (made mostly from garganega grapes) and a plate of fritto misto.
Pinot bianco (blanc), in the hands of the vintners in north eastern Alto Adige, has a flowing viscosity and beautiful perfume. Friulano is one of the most important grapes of the Alto Adige, producing fragrant, fruity and refreshing wines with notes of flowers, citrus and almond.
Gavi di Gavi (made from cortese) is a dry, textured white with lemony and nutty characters from Piedmont. Vermentino is the classic grape of Sardinia making extremely tasty and zesty wines.
