Domaine A 2014 Pinot Noir
Winery : Domaine A
Domaine A/Stoney Vineyard is the oldest in the Coal Valley. Swiss IBM executive, the late Peter Althaus and wife Ruth (d.) purchased Stoney Vineyard in the late '80s and built a reputation as one of Australia's finest wine producers. Domaine A is now owned by the Moorilla/MONA team.
Made from a small 2ha plot on the highest part of the vineyard, the pinot yields here are naturally low and the berries small, creating full-bodied wines with fine backbones. Domain A red wines made with the cellar in mind and are released with generous bottle age.
Michele's notes: Deep and dark. Rich aromas of dark cherry and satsuma plums plus anise and wet stone. Wafts of roasted meats too. There's weight and a sumptuous texture without the wine being a fruit bomb.
The finish is dry and savoury with touch of earthiness and char from the classy oak.
