BURGUNDY - Faiveley & Dom de Bellene Bourgogne
Winery : Domaine de Bellene
MIXED SIX CONTAINS THREE OF EACH WINE
Two superb Bourgogne reds made from Pinot Noir by top producers.
2021 Joseph Faiveley Bourgogne Pinot Noir: This historic and famous Domaine has undergone something of a rejuvenation over recent vintages. The wines, at all levels, are more immediately approachable and showcase the quality of the fruit from their established vines, and those of long-term growers. Michele's notes: Red fruits to the fore - strawberry and cherry - with violets, fresh herbs, hints of roasted tomatoes, porcini, and beef tartare. Sweet cherry fruit in the mouth offset by earthy notes and spice.
2021 Dom. de Bellene "Maison Dieu" Vieilles Vignes Bourgogne Pinot Noir: This wine is defined by old-vine fruit and minimal intervention regime in the cellars. "Maison Dieu" is an old vine vineyard (Vieilles Vignes), situated in Pommard and planted in 1928. Nicholas Potel's parents bought it in 1978; it has been farmed organically since 1992. Michele's notes: Appealing and generous nose, ripe cherry fruit, spice and wet stone. Some gamey/umami notes too. Soft mouthfeel, old vine depth of flavour, lingering, excellent grip at the last.
