New Zealand's Central Otago region comprises several sub-regions, all of which bestow particular style characteristics in the wines. The wines of Cromwell basin and Wanaka are sweetly scented and openly textured, Bendigo delivers depth and power, while Alexandra pinots show pure aromatics and fine structures.
2022 Two Degrees Pinot Noir: GOLD MEDAL NZ AAA Aotearoa International Wine Show From the northern end of the Cromwell Basin, not far from Wanaka. Vines were planted in 2003, the wine is made by Sarah-Kate & Dan Dineen of Maude.
2021/22 Mud House Claim 431 Pinot Noir: This is a limited production, single vineyard Pinot Noir. The fruit is sourced from Mud House's Claim 431 Vineyard in Bendigo. Free draining loam soils over schist gravel makes this sub-region a natural home for growing full flavoured and well-structured Pinot Noir.
2022 Shaky Bridge Artisan Pinot Noir: DOUBLE GOLD NZ International Wine Show From Alexandra, the southern-most area of Central Otago. . Fragrant bouquet with violet and cherry. Deep, rich palate with mouth-filling fruit. Oak adds spice notes.
2023 Nanny Goat Pinot Noir: Outstanding release of this deservedly popular Pinot made from Cromwell/Queensberry fruit. Alluring perfume of cherry fruit, plum and chocolate. Excellent flow across the palate.
2022 Chard Farm Mata Au Pinot: This is a blend of Chard Farm's best blocks in the Lowburn/Parkburn area. Deliciously juicy pinot noir. Morello cherry on the nose with charcuterie, mushroom and thyme. Tasty and harmonious.
2022/23 Maude Pinot Noir: This wine is a blend of fruit from Queensbury (close to Wanaka) and Mohawk Hill in Lowburn (Cromwell Basin). Aromas of cherry/berry and bakery with hints of anise, wet stone and sweet spice. Terrific pinot energy in the mouth, the flavours bounce. Harmony is everything though, with the acid beautifully tucked into ripe fruit, complemented by liquorice strap.
